Even in middle school, he took on 8 opponents single-handedly.

 

However, meeting basketball and his teammate changed his life for the better. He gradually distances himself from pointless fights and becomes a dedicated basketball player. Through his experiences on the court, he discovers the true purpose of his life. He learns discipline, dedication, and determination, and transforms from a rough-edged troublemaker to a respected member of his community.

 

At first, when he claimed to like basketball, it was simply a ploy to impress Akagi, but as the series progresses, his love for the sport becomes genuine. In the finale, he sincerely states, "I really like basketball," marking a touching moment that highlights his character's growth throughout the story.
