Why do some people do irrational things?
We all have moments when we act irrationally, doing things that make no sense or go against our best interests. We may walk on manicured grass, stick our finger in a friend's ice cream, or break a rule just for the sake of it. Why do we behave this way? What drives us to do irrational things?
According to psychologist Paul Bloom, the main reason is curiosity. He argues that we have a natural drive to explore and understand the world, even if it means breaking some rules or norms. He says that curiosity is not only a source of knowledge, but also of creativity, beauty and joy. He gives examples of how curiosity can lead us to create art, music, literature and science.
However, curiosity is not the only factor that influences our irrational behavior. There are other reasons why we may do irrational things, such as emotions, social norms, moral values and self-control. These factors can either enhance or restrain our curiosity, depending on the situation and the consequences.
For instance, emotions can affect our rationality in both positive and negative ways. On one hand, emotions can motivate us to pursue our passions and interests, which can lead to innovation and discovery. On the other hand, emotions can also cloud our judgment and make us act impulsively or aggressively.
Similarly, social norms can shape our irrational behavior in different ways. On one hand, social norms can provide us with guidance and expectations on how to behave appropriately in different contexts. On the other hand, social norms can also pressure us to conform or rebel against them.
Are Jokers born-to-be or made ? Many people could think that Jokers are different from ordinary people. But some psychologists suggested that we have almost same instincts like Joker. Many of us don’t do crimes as much as Jokers do, even though we have basic instinctions towards sex, foods, and sleep. Yes, Those are basic instincts but for example the main reason of sexist crimes is sex instcinct. Of course, there are other factors like desires for power or memories from bad experiences in child. But what could be the main factor between somone do become Jokers and someone don’t.
According to some psychologists, Joker may suffer from various psychological disorders such as antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), pseudobulbar affect (PBA), schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder123. These disorders may explain some of his behaviors and symptoms, but they do not justify or excuse his actions.
Some psychologists also suggest that Joker may represent the dark side of human nature that we all have to some extent. We may have similar instincts or impulses as Joker, such as aggression, revenge, power, or pleasure. However, most of us do not act on them because we have moral values, social norms, empathy, and self-control that prevent us from harming others or ourselves.
Why do people sometimes act in ways that seem irrational? While it's true that we all have moments when we do things that defy logic or go against our best interests, there are a number of factors that can contribute to this kind of behavior.
One key factor is curiosity. According to psychologist Paul Bloom, our innate desire to explore and understand the world around us can sometimes lead us to break rules or norms. While curiosity can certainly be a source of creativity and joy, other factors such as emotions, social norms, moral values, and self-control can also play a role in shaping our irrational behavior.
For example, our emotions can either motivate or hinder our ability to think and act rationally. Similarly, social norms can guide us towards appropriate behavior, or they can pressure us to conform or rebel. Ultimately, while we all may possess the same basic instincts and impulses as people who engage in harmful or destructive behavior, most of us are able to exercise self-control and avoid acting on these impulses thanks to our moral values and social conditioning.
